National Day of Remembrance and Action on Violence Against Women

Start Date: December 5, 2022

End Date: December 6, 2022

Nunavut-wide

December 6 is the National Day of Remembrance and Action on Violence Against Women. A day dedicated to ending gender-based violence and honouring the victims we’ve lost.

On December 6, you can show your support by wearing purple or a white ribbon. You can create safe spaces to hold conversations about sexism, violence against women, girls, female-identifying and gender non-conforming people, and the LGTBQIA+ community. You can observe a moment of silence at 11 a.m. and you can organize or attend a vigil in your community.

In Iqaluit, the Qulliit Nunavut Status of Women Council, the Government of Nunavut, the Nunavut Law Society and the RCMP are holding a community walk to honour victims and spread awareness. The walk will start at the four-corners at 5:45 p.m. and end at 6 p.m. at the Nunatta Sunakkutaangit Museum, followed by a remembrance event. All are welcome!
